In this paper, we discuss a new technique for measuring transceiver noise, skew, and the detection of uncompensated impairments. The method introduces frequency domain notch or notches at transmitter, which allows estimation Signal-to-Noise Distortion Ratio different stages over transmission chain. proposed requires signal spectrum using either: modem receiver, an Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), oscilloscope, Electrical (ESA), depending on stage where is measured requiring minimal processing received signal.
